Supporting the Library

Here are a few ways folks have chosen to support the library in the past:

  • Celebrate a special birthday or event by having family members and friends make a monetary gift in the name of the person/s to the library. With these gifts we will see that a bookplate is put in each book purchased recognizing them publicly for generations to come.

  • Commemorate the life of a loved-one by making a donation to the library. We will be honored to put a lovely in memoriam bookplate in the front of each book purchased in their name.

  • Donate books that are in good condition for the library's annual book sale in April or volunteer your time by helping us organize the book sale. This event is a major source of supplementary funding that enables the library to provide special programs and services to its patrons.

  • Underwrite the cost of an annual membership for the library (and all its members) to one of the area's artistic/cultural organizations. Suggested organizations: The Portland Museum of Art, The Children's Museum, The Coastal Maine Botanical Garden.

  • Provide the library with a gift card to a local nursery, florist or caterer. We'll put each gift card to good use beautifying the exterior of the library in the spring/summer or hosting our international luncheon in the fall.

  • Support the many programs and on-going services of the library with a tax-deductible contribution. Speak with our director, Beth Edmonds, for further details.

  • Volunteer your time and energy. Volunteers are vital to the day-to-day operation of the library. A few hours each week spent shelving returned books is a significant contribution that we truly appreciate. If you are interested in volunteering, stop by the Main Circulation Desk and complete a short volunteer form. Our volunteer coordinator will be in touch with you after reviewing this form.
