Freeport Community Library - Books For Freeport's Readers         Inter-library Loan (ILL)

                                              Services

If you are unable to find the information or book that you seek, please see Joanne in the Children's Room, who will assist you in getting the resource from another library through the inter-library loan service.  Books, newspaper and magazine articles and some special items can be acquired through inter-library loan.  Videos, DVDs and audiobooks are not available through this system.

It would be helpful, though not necessary, if you had the author, title, publisher information ready. This may be found by searching in the Books In Print books in the Adult Reference Area or by searching on-line sources such as Amazon.com.

ILL is a free service except for the payment of postage one-way for the book's travel from another library to us.  If you are nearing the end of your borrowing period and need your loaned book longer, please call us three days before your book is due and we will try to renew it for you.  This process may take a day or two so be sure to give us a little lead time to help you.

Interlibrary Loan Policy

The Freeport Community Library is part of the statewide interlibrary loan system using our Area Resource Center, which is Portland Public Library in Portland, Maine.  In order to use this service, a borrower must be a patron of the Freeport Community Library in good standing.   Requests for interlibrary loan must be filled out in writing and submitted to a library clerk.  The request is then forwarded to the ARC in Portland.  When the material is received at the Freeport Community Library, the patron is called.  The patron must pay the return postage for the material.  The material will be saved at the library for a week and if the patron is unable to pick it up, it will be returned.  The patron will still be responsible for the return postage.  The patron is responsible for returning the material to the Freeport Community Library who will then return it to the lending library.  If the material is not returned, the patron will be billed for the cost of the material and processing fees.
